Living & Dining Area

Week 2-4

The tenant discovered the landlords had left five standing pieces of furniture packed full of their personal items. Everything from open alcohol, drawers full of junk (random office and home items like safety pens, staples, family pictures, wine openers, plastic bag ties, matches, paperclips, etc), children’s toys, weights, shoes, phones, phone cords, electric cordsm driver’s license, credit cards, family pictures, children’s art, sewing items, mismatched cocktail and wine glasses, children’s clothes, used candles, silverware setting, greeting cards, etc. The bottom of the drawers was incrusted with dirt, food, and grime.

*Banner above: 4+ weeks in the property, the tenant’s son swept under furniture and found two sperm viles.

Q&A

Why did the tenant stay?

A.

  • The tenant and son just packed their family home in storage and drove 1/2 way across the US.

  • A professional service cleaned the property. Upon arrival, the property’s surface was clean. Including but not limited to, bathrooms, kitchen counters, etc…The unsanitary and unlivable conditions were discovered over time.

  • They only knew one person in the area and had nowhere else to go.

  • They did not know their rights under California laws.

  • They contacted the landlords upon arrival about the flooded kitchen. The landlord told them how to fix it. They did not send a plumber or mold mitigator to follow up.

  • This set the tone and expectation of the landlords.
